Conscription

Daniel McCarthy at LewRockwell.com Blog on Military Slavery:

I don't think the draft is likely to return, not short of World War III. Conscription simply elicits far too much resistance. The War Party can intervene in other nations endlessly so long as the so few Americans actually stand to lose their lives and freedoms directly. Ironically enough, bringing back the draft might lead to fewer wars, not that it would be worth it.

While I disagree with conscription and consider it a form of slavery, it would be entertaining to watch all these obnoxious chickenshit hawks, like Patrick Ruffini, getting their heads shaved and their asses off the couch. All of a sudden, we'd find out that we had far fewer threats to our national security abroad. While that would be a genuine positive, conscription is still slavery and I can't lend it my support.

  1. I agree. Conscription is slavery.

But what do you think about a Swiss militia system vs. a standing army with conscription? Every male must be a part of the militia, and be issued equipment, and be trained to use that equipment?

  2. Still a bad idea. It denies liberty (what if the war the nation is fighting is for an unjust cause) and is sexist. Why shouldn’t women have to fight as well? There’s no reason women can’t. Equal rights means equal responsibilities.

Conscription, no matter what form it takes, is still slavery.
