The Honorable James P. Moran
U.S House of Representatives
2239 Rayburn House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515-4608

Dear Representative Moran:

Please support the Hinchey-Rohrabacher medical marijuana amendment, set to be offered on the House floor this Wednesday or Thursday. This sensible and compassionate legislation would simply tell the Dept. of Justice it can’t use scarce taxpayer funds to interfere with medical marijuana laws passed by states through the democratic process.

Medical marijuana patients and their legitimate providers shouldn’t be subject to arrest and prosecution by the federal government. This is a matter of medical necessity and basic justice.

Also, it is wasteful and stupid, at a time when our nation has real enemies, to devote money and law enforcement resources to investigating and raiding patients and providers of medical marijuana, who are safe and harmless, much less those who are complying with and are sanctioned by state, county and municipal governments.

Medical marijuana is backed up by significant scientific evidence — much of it detailed in the federally-commissioned 1999 Institute of Medicine report — and by the will of the voters. Please do the right thing for patients and for democracy by voting YES on the Hinchey-Rohrabacher amendment.

Sincerely,

James Landrith
