Reading, Writing and That Rithmatic Stuff

A Peoria Pundit gets a new job and puts more learning in his head:

I got the job …

… and I start Monday. It’s a tech support job and the hours will allow me to return to college next semester — either full or part-time — to earn a teaching degree.

Congratulations on pursuing your second degree. What are you interested in teaching?

I go back to school myself (American Military University) the first week of November to finish my degree, which I voluntarily interrupted with military service in 1989 and which was later involuntarily delayed by extenuating circumstances. It feels good to finally tie up these loose ends and pull all my scattered credits into one transcript so I can get that damned piece of paper out of the way.

  1. Thanks for the kind words.

I want to teach history and political science/government. I probably would qualify as an English teacher and I might consider that. It might also be wise to take enough math courses to teach that subject as well.

I would like to teach junior high school or high school.

I have no experience that would let me coach sports, and that might hurt in some districts. But then, I wouldn;’t want to work for a school district that makes decisions on who teaches children based on whether he can coach freshman football.
