There are many unpaid, hard-working advocates and activists within sexual violence advocacy circles. So much crucial work is done on local levels – unpaid and outside of normal working hours. Then, there are the online only “activists” who hijack any discussion of sexual assault that doesn’t include exactly what they think is the only thing that matters – promoting disinformation.
An example of such are QANAN/MAGA extremists who scream “groomer” as an insult to silence critics, or who spread conspiracy theories about “Hollywood child trafficking rings” and cannibals. These people do nothing to help survivors in the real world. They simply attempt to cause chaos and spread disinformation to benefit certain political candidates. Please be aware of credibility with regard to claims made online that cannot be backed up with mainstream media or organizational coverage. They do real world damage to the hard work of honest advocates and activists.
