Recent high-profile disclosures of sexual assault, rape and harassment have fostered an environment that has empowered many victims and survivors to come forward. Unfortunately, the rape apologists and celebrity stans feel emboldened to derail, abuse and terrorize survivors. For instance:
- If talking about Cosby, they switch to “what about Weinstein” ignoring thousands of hours of media on Weinstein’s arrest and pending trial.
- If talking about Trump, they deflect to Clinton – any Clinton.
- If talking about R. Kelly, they deflect to Epstein.
- If talking about Epstein, they redirect to talking about the circumstances of his death, rather than his crimes.
- If talking about Asia Argento, they tell you that she was set up.
And so on, ad infinitum.
When you educate with facts, links, arrest reports, and statute of limitations, they switch to gaslighting, abuse and blocking. They aren’t interested in facts. They just want to shut down discussion of their favorite rapist’s actions. Gross.
