Albany AMWA Hosts Interpersonal Violence Awareness Week
By: Amanda Wingle, Region 2 Director

Albany Med’s Interpersonal Violence Awareness Week was held in January. On Monday, Christin Guilder, from the Albany County Crime Victim and Sexual Violence Center spoke about Compassionate Care for Sexual Assault Victims. On Tuesday, Sexual Violence Activitist, James Landrith, tackled the topic of Male Survivors and the importance of gaining allies in the medical community.  Wednesday’s event featured how to talk to a sexual assault victim, presented by Dr. Chame Blackburn, AMC Emergency Medicine Physician.  At the end of the week, Intimate Partner Violence and the Law were covered by Mary Lynch and Alicia Ouellete from Albany Law School. Lastly, Female Survivor’s Stories were shared by RAINN Speaker, Shikema Monique Clark, to close out the event! Overall, it was a fantastic and extremely inspirational week!
