Yahoo! News on Kerry takes legal action against Vietnam critics:

Democratic White House hopeful John Kerry (news – web sites)’s campaign formally alleged that a group attacking his Vietnam war record had illegal ties to US President George W. Bush (news – web sites)’s reelection bid.

In a statement released to reporters, Kerry’s campaign announced it had “filed a legal complaint against Swift Boat Veterans for Truth (SBVT) before the Federal Election Commission (news – web sites) (FEC) for violating the law with inaccurate ads that are illegally coordinated with the Bush-Cheney presidential campaign.”

I know this is off-topic from the referenced story, but as a veteran and libertarian who won’t be voting for Kerry OR Bush, I’m really disgusted at the Swift Boat folks. They’ve been busted lying repeatedly. If they want to attack Kerry’s policies and his voting record, then I’m with them all the way. He’d be an economic disaster, but then, all Republicrats and Demopublicans are. Instead, they’ve lied about the record and been refuted by both the written record and men who were actually present during the events in question. The men claiming to have served with Kerry in their advertisments have already been proven liars. They were in Vietnam, but in separate units. I was in Saudi Arabia when Secretary Powell was there. Can I go on television and claim that I served with him? Further, these Swifties have been busted by fellow veterans from both the right and the left. I’m no Kerry lover, but I despise liars.

Criticizing and analyzing a man’s policies and beliefs are one thing, lying is quite another…
