A multiracial Framingham man became widely recognized as one of that town's bravest fighting men.

There are several versions of what occurred during Jeffrey Hemenway's early years. It is certain that he was born in 1737 in Framingham. In addition, historians have concluded that Jeffrey was partially of African descent and partly an American Indian. But it is unclear who his parents were.
