Cluelessness

From a posting in a discussion group I subscribe to:

You know what I think? I think the multiracial movement is all about one world and I don't like it. That's all it's about and it's awful. I went to one of my old emails and found some things on the multiracial movement from the mavin yahoo group. Before I joined the renaissance circle and american mulatto I thought the multiracial thing was cool but I didn't know all that it involved. When I thought of it I thought mainly of people like me getting the rights that they wanted , but it's just not about that ,( the right to claim yoru identity ) it's about the joining of all mixed race people and starting a new race. One race called the brown race making it into a one world.I do not like that at all. the Bible says that when it comes to this , the one world , things will start to happen. It means the end of the world is near.I'd rather be forced to check black or other on a box than to have this one world thing going on. If that's what it takes to be able to check what I want on the census I don't want it. And sometimes I think it would sad if all other cultures were wiped out of the world don't you think? I mean it's fine to mix if your'e in love but I think it's nice that we have so many different cultures around.I think it makes the world interesting. Like I would feel so weird if there was no longer the white or black race or the asian race. I feel like something would be missing. I think it is nice when people stick together and stay strong in their culture.I'm not looking for everyone to be the same racially or politically. that is communistic in thinking to me. All I want is to be loved and accepted as I am. That's all anybody wants. We don't have to mix and all become one to love each other. A white person can marry a white person and still love other races just the same as a white person who marries a blck person. This email is nto against race mixing. It is however against the multiracial movement. I think people should marry who they love no matter what wther they are black or white. you should be with who you want to be with but love is the only right reason. You shouldnt' marry another race because you are trying ot prove you're nto racist or because you think it's cool. You shouldn't do it because you are trying to breed a new race ……… just one race. There's nothing wrong with having more than one culture. Please tell me what you think anyone. I hope I make some sense. I dont' want people to think I am hypocritical and think that I'm against interracial marriages and stuff. I'm with a white guy so that's not it at all.I'm just saying that I value different cultures and we dont' all have to mix to prove something. It should only be about love and we don't have to all be one race to be good , or rather to be great .we can all love and accept each other the way we are. Then the world would be a great place.

It is interesting that she has basically repeated the same racialist drivel espoused by anti-miscegenationists for decades while going to great lengths to attempt to distinguish herself as separate from such sentiments. See the similar letter I received from Bob Jones University in 1998:

Interestingly enough, the elder Bob Jones (grandfather of the present leader of BJU) who originally instituted the ban on interracial dating had documented ties to the Klan in South Carolina. BJU has long espoused such "one world" paranoia as justification for its anti-miscegenationist and segregationist views.

My friend Salsa, who forwarded this to me, is correct about this person being a bit confused. She is basically distorting and mislabeling the hard work and efforts of many individuals and organizations on behalf of self-identification rights for multiracial individuals and families. It is quite interesting how quickly she adopted the collectivist methods of national socialists in her comments by lumping all of us into one bag and putting a nice and neat, but false label on us while simultaneously calling us communists.

This clueless line is my favorite: "it's about the joining of all mixed race people and starting a new race. One race called the brown race making it into a one world."

Really? As a longtime proponent of self-identification rights and someone who has been a leader in the multiracial movement for several years now, I'm more than a little perplexed by such a patently false statement made by someone who is clearly not in a position to know the facts. I don't know of anyone at any of the national multiracial organizations, publications or portals who is advocating any of the nonsense falsely attributed to us by this individual. None of these entities, generally considered to be among the leadership of the multiracial movement, has ever espoused such take over the world conspiratorial views: AMEA, A Place For Us, Project RACE, New People, Interracial Voice, Mavin, The Multiracial Activist, and Hapa Issues Forum.

This revisionism and distortion of the multiracial movement is beginning to reach epic levels.

Refuting these constant distortions is getting quite tiresome.
