SACRAMENTO, CALIF.–Ward Connerly, campaign chairman of Yes on Proposition 54, announced today that the Yes on Prop 54 campaign will hold an election night event at the Holiday Inn Capitol Plaza at 300 J Street, Sacramento, Calif. 95814. Spokespersons for the campaign will be available at the event beginning at 6 p.m. on election night, which is October 7.
“We’re looking forward to joining with friends and allies to celebrate the end of a long and grueling campaign to convince the people of California that it is wrong to classify and divide people by race,” said Mr. Connerly. “We believe that the first step towards a color-blind government is for the government to get out of the racial bean-counting business.” Friends and supporters of the campaign will be in attendance, along with all members of the media who wish to attend.
Prop 54, a ballot initiative appearing before votes on October 7, will prohibit the state and all local California governments from classifying or dividing its citizens by race, ethnicity, color or national origin in public education, employment, contracting and most other government operations. Reasonable exemptions exist for medical research subjects and medical patients, activities required by federal law or for federal funds, the Department of Fair Employment and Housing and some law enforcement activity. The state legislature, by a two-thirds vote and with the governor’s approval, can vote to exempt any other reasonable area.
Members of the media and anyone else seeking to contact the Yes on Prop 54 campaign about the election night event should do so through the contact information listed above only. They should not contact the Holiday Inn Capitol Plaza. For more information on Prop 54, please go to www.racialprivacy.org.
