I recently subscribed to an email list for a company that sells no-carb salad dressings, etc. Apparently someone sent an email to the list address which was unfortunately set to allow any member to post. I'm sure that this was purely accidental, but the ensuing spastic fits that some of the other recipients of the list had are priceless:
Subject: YOU ARE CAUSING DRASTIC PROBLEMS WHICH WILL CAUSE YOU DRASTIC PROBLEMS: We are recieving hundreds of emails asking us to take people off of your list, but they are going to *********** instead of your list admin. I expect this to be taken care of immediately.
Duh. It's an email list unfortunately set to allow all to post. It will be fixed as soon as folks get to work and are aware of the problem. Calm down fella. And the threat in the subject line was not necessary. All you've done is create more email for everyone else.
Please remove me from your mailing address now!
It was 7:43 am when this message was sent. I doubt anyone was at work at that time. More knee-jerk reactions. Do people stop and think before hitting send? No one was at work to take him off the list "now".
Stop sending multiple emails
Hey lady, it was kneejerk responses like yours that kept the chain going. Calm down and quit sending the same post over and over.
I think we ended up with around 250 email messages occuring overnight and early this morning with people demanding that others stop emailing them "now" or "right away" lest they "WILL CAUSE YOU DRASTIC PROBLEMS". Do people not look at the "To" address on emails anymore? A two second glance at the "To" line would have made it quite clear to anyone who has spent more that five minutes on the internet that the posts were being sent through an email list server. Is it really that hard to figure out that this was a technical issue related to posting permissions? Is it necessary for some folks to send 20 messages in response to everyone else's postings? Damn. Ya'll weren't being singled out for email abuse, it was an error. Calm down. I'm sure these people are intelligent and proficient in their jobs, but this is simple stuff here folks. Take a breather.
Sorry folks. I had to vent. When otherwise smart people do kneejerk stupid things over and over it tends to bug me.
