Reuters on Philadelphia council condemns Patriot Act:
Philadelphia on Thursday became the largest U.S. city to date to condemn the USA Patriot Act as a threat to the constitutional rights of its citizens.
By a 13-3 vote, the Democrat-dominated City Council passed a resolution calling on local members of Congress to work for the repeal of the federal law that granted the Justice Department broad new police powers for Washington's so-called war on terrorism.
It looks the the gloves are finally coming off on the PATRIOT Act. Not everyone buys the hollow argument that there's nothing wrong with subverting the Bill of Rights and circumventing judicial oversight.
