Religion Run Amuck

Is there no institution free of this nonsense? Now we have Secret Service agents involved. A Secret Service agent has admitted to leaving nasty religious based messages on the private property of Omar Shishani after executing a search warrant at his home.

Umm, if the agent had been Muslim and the homeowner Christian, you just know that every conservative Bible-thumper on each coast would be calling for his head. WorldNetDaily would be mourning the death of Christianity in America. Ann Coulter would be decrying the loss of everything sacred and holy in the universe. Senators would be praying together. Orrin Hatch and John Ashcroft would sing hymns. You get the picture.

Fortunately, the Secret Service has suspended him and he may face criminal charges. That, and he may have just hurt the prosectution's case by casting doubt on the credibility of anything found during the search. His inability to separate his religious beliefs from his job opened a big-ass door for the defense to claim that the entire search, assuming it found anything incriminating, was tainted. Obviously, this is a shame for several reasons: one, Mr. Shishani appears to have been up to no good and was allegedly found with millions in fake checks on July 17; and two, this unnamed agent may have screwed up what is most likely a legitimate search of a real suspect, as opposed to the countless over-reaching home searches conducted since September 11.

This unnamed (hopefully not for long) Secret Service agent earns my newly minted title – Jackass of the Week. Mr. Moussaoui comes in a close second. Better luck next time Zach.
