Malignant Activism
Frequently, social media discussions of male survivor concerns are met with derision from gender focused sexual violence activists. These activists often object to any mention of male victimization – by anyone – at any time. Discussions related to female perpetration can result in open hostility, mockery and threats. Typical derailing tactics include:
- Hysterical, hyper-focus on claims that all sexual violence against men and boys is solely perpetrated by other men.
- Focusing attention back on female survivors and away from male survivors, regardless of the context of a discussion.
- Condescension and belittlement of male survivor experiences.
