Male Survivor Trends

Excerpt from my presentation on Male Survivors of Sexual Violence: My Story and How to Help (1 CEU hour):

  • Tend to wait longer than female survivors to seek help.
  • May fear being judged as “weak”.
  • Likely to believe they can “shake it off”.
  • Often experience gender-based victim-shaming, despite myths to the contrary.
  • Sometimes denied care or incompetently referred to offender oriented services.
