Competent communication skills are important:
- Mirror their language when appropriate.
- May describe incidents as “something happened”, rather than using terminology such as “sexual assault”, “rape” or “molestation”.
- Often shy away from identifying as a “victim” or “survivor”.
- Avoid “therapy voice” and speak more plainly.
