#SAAPM: As a survivor with a public story, I’ve learned a few things since first breaking my silence in 2008:
1 – You don’t owe anyone your story.
2- You don’t owe anyone specific details if you do share your story.
3 – You don’t owe critics, skeptics, victim-shamers or rape apologists a second of your time. Seriously. You don’t.
4 – You reserve the right to decide when, how, and if you share your story.
5 – Anyone who doesn’t like it can go pound sand.
Seriously. Just because you decide to tell a portion of your story to the general public does not mean you suddenly lose the right to exert boundaries. Anyone claiming otherwise is not an ally.
