Nice Try Rachel, But You Were Wrong

I was unaware that I had my own "wing" of the multiracial movement.  According to Rachel of Rachel's Tavern (http://www.rachelstavern.com/) in a comment at Mixed Media Watch, I do. Here: (http://www.mixedmediawatch.com/2006/09/18/introducing-new-demographics-core-beliefs/)

Wow.

Funny thing, I've always gotten along with Jen and Carmen and have communicated with both of them privately and publicly.

Perhaps Rachel didn't know that when she attempted to play us against each other in her comments at the link above.  Rachel's approach is similar to the "with us or against us" approach favored by the neo-conservatives running the government at present. I have great respect for Swirl and Mixed Media Watch (http://www.mixedmediawatch.com).  I don't always agree 100% with their take on a given topic, but I've never felt antagonistic or as if we are separate "wings."

We agree far more than we disagree. People really need to stop trying to force their own agendas on others without doing their homework first.

  1. The core beliefs here look good http://www.mixedmediawatch.com/2006/09/18/introducing-new-demographics-core-beliefs/

I had my nose rubbed in smelly Diversity initiatives at my former employer ad nauseum. We had Months, Awards, Employee Clubs, Job Fairs, Conferences, and other functions EXCLUSIVELY for these “DIVERSE” classes of employees: Women, Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, and Homosexuals. I don’t fit into any of these categories, so I politely asked the Diversity Management at our company if I could start a Club, and also have a celebratory Month, annual Awards, an exclusive Job Fair, and a self-promoting Conference for my unacknowledged class of Straight White Males.

“No,” replied the black lesbian. “Straight white men aren’t Diverse.”

All aspects of staffing, including layoffs, promotions, and hiring included preferences for the Diverse segment of candidates. Many of these Diversity policies are in writing, and seem to contradict the fundamentals federal laws that prohibit discrimination on race, gender, and orientation in employment practices. It seems that in practice the unclarified policy is that there is “good” discrimination, i.e. when it’s against straight white men, and “bad” discrimination: when it’s against anybody else.
