Cory Maye and The Agitator

I haven't blogged about this yet, but I should have mentioned it long ago.

Radley Balko, a Cato Institute writer and fellow libertarian blogger, has been faithfully and tirelessly exposing a travesty of justice.  The short version – a black male named Cory Maye was sentenced to death for defending himself and his daughter against an illegal and unannounced raid by white police officers on his home.  In short, cops busted down his door, raced through his home and proceeded to violently raid his baby daughter's bedroom without once identifying themselves as police officers.  When the still unidentified cops began busting through his daughter's bedroom door, he chose to protect her from the threat and opened fire.

For protecting his family from unidentified individuals violently busting down the door to his baby girl's room, he was sentenced to death.

Radley has a summary of the facts in this Reason article:  http://www.reason.com/0610/fe.rb.the.shtml

Radley's blog category on Cory Maye is here:  http://www.theagitator.com/archives/cat_cory_maye.php

This is a real travesty and there is no absolutely no service to justice in jailing a father for protecting his family from unidentifed assailants in his own home.

My hat is off to Radley for tirelessly publicizing Cory Maye's plight.
