The Honorable (I jest) George Allen (R-VA), has once again proven himself a disgrace to his office. Watch this video, blog it and pass it on (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3aszbKdz8o).
In short, Allen shoplifted Durbin's amendment, made minor edits and passed it off as his own. Given the recent "macaca" scandal and now this obvious theft, I have little choice but to believe that Senator Allen is lacking in personal pride, shame, completely without integrity and generally lacking in home training.
And, once again, busted on camera.
Does he have an ounce of shame left? If so, he should use it to muster up the strength to admit he is not mature enough to represent Virginia in the Senate. A man who lies and steals without pause on national television is not a real man.
Then there is the not-so-small matter of Allen boldly lying in his current television commercial by taking credit for the creation of another bill that was actually introduced by Senators Lieberman and Ensign. For more information on that particular Allen whopper, see: http://www.webbforsenate.org/blog/node/133. It is one thing to support a piece of legislation by co-sponsoring it and publicly supporting it. It is quite another thing to co-sponsor a piece of legislation and then falsely represent it to your constituents as your own.
For several years, I have been involved in multiple national and international civil liberties coalitions and adhoc committees. Those coalitions and committees often produce major advocacy letters and statements sent to Congress and the Administration, which are signed by individuals and organizations in agreement. Often, my name or my publication's name is listed on said letters. This is support, not creation. I would never claim authorship of those advocacy pieces, solely on the basis of signing them. Unfortunately, George Allen lacks such a belief system. But he is a Republican in 2006 in a Republican controlled government, so that is just nifty keen and a-okay.
As has been aptly demonstrated by the Bush Administration and most of Congress, you don't need morals when you've got power.
Senator Allen, it is time for you to go. You have once again disgraced yourself beyond belief.
