Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor:
While I greatly appreciate the mention that The Multiracial Activist received in this issue of Main Street:
http://www.dartmouth.edu/~mainst/21/19–APA_Activism_Online.pdf
I take issue with the inaccurate portrayal of The Multiracial Activist by Shirley Lin.
Her claim that we call
“for an end to official racial classifications, all while denying the advances made by “traditional civil rights groups”
is false and inflammatory. The Multiracial Activist has long been involved with many traditional civil rights groups on issues of shared concern (http://multiracial.com/content/section/10/49/) and we salute their advances. However, there is much more to be done and many groups are now involved in “protecting their turf” from rising immigrant groups and changing demographics like the rising tide of “multiracial” individuals and “interracial” families. The Multiracial Activist has never denied any advances made by traditional civil rights groups. Claims to the contrary are completely false.
Ms. Lin is either mistaken, lying or allowing her personal prejudices to cloud her writing.
The end result, regardless of the reason, is inexcusable.
Sincerely,
James Landrith
