Letter to The President
Letter to The President
January 26, 2005
President Bush
The White House
Washington, DC 20500
Dear Mr. President:
As a former Marine and Gulf War veteran, I am writing to urge you to rescind your executive orders authorizing Rumsfeld to send Special Forces troops into countries with which we are not at war.
Your authorization of a series of executive orders and Presidential findings authorizing the Pentagon to send in reconnaissance teams into a number of countries to prepare for military action is a grave error. Underlying the mission in Iran appears to be the prediction that an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities would lead to regime change, throwing out the fundamentalist mullahs who largely control the country. The only analysts who share this view also incorrectly predicted that our troops occupying Iraq would be greeted with flowers rather than an insurgency.
The human, financial and moral costs of attempting regime change in Iran through a preemptive military strike are likely to dwarf those we are already suffering from Iraq. Please rescind your orders immediately.
Again, as a former Marine and Gulf War veteran, I want to know how you intend to proceed on this issue. Our nation doesn’t need more enemies and our nation’s mothers don’t need more children coming home in bodybags.
Sincerely,
James Landrith
