Jody Gammar, writing for LewRockwell.com, on The Lesser Evil:
Several years ago, I sent a letter to the National Libertarian Party. I advised them to stop wasting their time and scarce funds trying to convert Republicans, especially the Conservative ones. (I call them “Confused Conservatives.”) It was full of funny stuff, as always, because that’s the way I am. Or is “peculiar” the right word?
I told them that Democrats were much more likely to convert than Republicans. The reason I gave was that Republicans subliminally view their party as a football team, of which they themselves are an integral part and would gladly go to Hell before they would even consider not voting a straight ticket at every opportunity. (All Republicans always vote.) Of course, they view otherwise as tantamount to cheering for the other team. There are many, many Democrats who act the same way, but the fervor just isn’t there to the extent of Team Republican and, comparatively speaking, the Democrats are quite open-minded and have less concern about other people’s business.
I've long believed that Republicans, perpetually hung up on theocratic impulses and authoritarian leanings, are beyond our help. Does that mean that I believe we can easily incorporate millions of Democrats into our camp? Not necessarily, but I'm willing to try. The modern Republican, with his propensity for empire, sending others off to die in his place while proclaiming himself an uberpatriot and trading a false sense of security for liberty, is a lost cause.
I invite my Democratic readers to read the rest here and then join our conversations for liberty here, here, and here.
