Reserves Callup?!

Elisabeth Bumiller and David E. Sanger of The New York Times on Kerry Sees Plan to Call Up New Reserves After Nov. 2:

Senator John Kerry on Friday accused the Bush administration of secretly planning a mobilization of Army Reserve and National Guard units immediately after the election.

My first response to this news was that it sounded like typical political hype, especially given that it was coming from the Kerry camp.

Officials of the Kerry campaign cited Representative John P. Murtha, Democrat of Pennsylvania, as their source for information on the call-up plan.

Until I read further and saw that the allegation was being made by Representative John P. Murtha (D-PA). For those not in the know, Murtha is a fellow Marine veteran in addition to being a Member of Congress. I remember him as being heavily involved and easily approachable with regard to Marine Corps issues with the Office of the Legislative Assistant to the Commandant of the Marine Corps and the Senate/House Navy-Marine Corps Liasion Offices (my last active duty assignment).

The possibility of more reservist callups for this disaster of an occupation disturbs me greatly. We don’t need more Americans deployed to this mess. We don’t need more Americans being forced to hand over billions more for this war. We don’t need to continue this Statist fatal attempt at remaking Iraq in our image by force. Unless I’ve suffered some selective form of amnesia, I don’t remember when Iraq was admitted to the Union as the 51st state.

Of course, to the big government conservative of 2004 and their accomplices on the left, my money is their money and they’ll spend it on whatever they decide. But then I’m a traitor to my nation for daring to question the validity of this war that has claimed the lives of 1,000 of my fellow American military men and women and left tens of thousands of wounded and missing limbs. Why am I a traitor? Because a cowardly chickenhawk told me so (from the safety of his easychair, of course).
