Charles Arthur of The Independent on ‘Secret film shows Iraq prisoners sodomised’
Seymour Hersh, who reported on the torture of the prisoners in New Yorker magazine in May, told an audience in San Francisco that “it’s worse”. But he added that he would reveal the extent of the abuses: “I’m not done reporting on all this,” he told a meeting of the American Civil Liberties Union.
He said: “The boys were sodomised with the cameras rolling, and the worst part is the soundtrack, of the boys shrieking. And this is your government at war.”
Folks, this is what Drug War Advocate/addict Rush Limbaugh calls “fraternity hazing” and he views as fully excusable because the troops involved were “having a good time.” Where I come from this is called rape, but to a hypocrite like Limbaugh, who believes that all drug abusers should be in jail – except him – this is a-okay. And, of course, Senator James M. Asshole Inhofe is more “more outraged by the outrage.” The man is a national fucking disgrace. Torture, rape, sodomy and multiple treaty violations are not something to be forgiven or covered up. When I wore a uniform, I took my oath of office seriously – apparently Senator Inhofe was sleeping through his oath. The Geneva Conventions and the UCMJ are not guidelines, they are law. They are not contingent on the enemy being upstanding and humane. As Americans, we do the right thing because its the right thing – not because the enemy is nice to us.
If these allegations of rape are indeed true, may the perpetrators burn in Hell. Yeah, I know some of my apologist conservative readers are thinking, “Landrith, that might be a little harsh.” Well, consider the fact that I’m agnostic to begin with and you may begin to grasp the level of rage I’m feeling about now that would cause me to invoke spiritual references. I don’t make excuses for rape, murder or war crimes based on the ideology or party affiliation of the president who happens to be serving at that time. My morals aren’t relative and fluid contingent on the whether the abuser did so under a donkey or an elephant. Wrong is wrong. Unfortunately, too many conservatives seem to think that wrong is wrong only if a Democrat is responsible.
And I have nothing but disgust and disdain for those who do.
