Reuters on U.S. Mulling How to Delay Nov. Vote in Case of Attack:
A senior House Democratic lawmaker was skeptical on Sunday of a Bush administration idea to obtain the authority to delay the November presidential election in case of an attack by al Qaeda,
U.S. counterterrorism officials are looking at an emergency proposal on the legal steps needed to postpone the presidential election in case of such an attack, Newsweek reported on Sunday.
“I think it’s excessive based on what we know,” said Rep. Jane Harman of California, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, in a interview on CNN’s “Late Edition.”
This sounds like wishful thinking on the part of this Administration. Mayhaps someone is looking to stall a possible defeat at the hands of Kerry? What do you want to bet this authority would not be contingent on an ACTUAL attack, but on a possible “trust us” type of attack? My money is on the latter. This is how cowards and criminals conduct their affairs, not Constitutional Republics.

I’d like to say this sounds too paranoid. On the other hand, I spent most of the 70s being told I was too paranoid and most of the next decade finding out that my own government HAD been persecuting me.
