Libertarian presidential candidate Aaron Russo has been ruffling feathers with his prediction of an impending military draft. Sadly, Republican Senator Chuck Hagel just endorsed a return to conscription. It would seem Mr. Russo is on to something. Check out his petition opposing a return to conscription here. I've signed it – now it's your turn.
In yesterday's WorldNetDaily:
Speaking at a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on post-occupation Iraq, Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., said, "There's not an American … that doesn't understand what we are engaged in today and what the prospects are for the future."
Hagel, a member of the committee, says all Americans should be involved in the effort.
"Why shouldn't we ask all of our citizens to bear some responsibility and pay some price?" Hagel said, arguing that restoring the draft would force "our citizens to understand the intensity and depth of challenges we face."
Gee Senator, do you mean the challenges we manufactured by invading a sovereign nation that had already been the recipient of our constant meddling since 1958? Or the blowback we've been getting from our previous support of Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan?
The senator also argued re-instituting the draft, which ended in the early '70s, would cause the burden of military service to be spread among all economic classes of people.
What to do you want to bet that there will be plenty of "outs" for the children of power and privilege to escape death and destruction in future interventionist wars? Does anyone really think that a new draft would spread the pain equally? Really?!
