Draft Boards???!!

BBC News on US raises spectre of conscription:

The American defence department has begun a recruitment drive for local draft boards, raising questions about a possible revival of conscription. A notice on a department website invites United States citizens over the age of 18 to volunteer for the boards.

The board members will decide who can be exempted if a draft is needed.

Bad, bad, bad, bad and bad – if this is for any purpose other than to fill the 80% of board vacancies mentioned later in the story. Not that I approve of draft boards and conscription, by the way.

Then again, if this is shades of things to come – I can't possibly emphasize how disturbing this news is to me. Is DoD preparing to fill these longstanding draft board vacancies as a result of future planned occupations of sovereign nations? Why all of a sudden after years of indifference and neglect? Saber rattling at Syria and Iran leaves one to ponder the possibility. On the upside, some of these younger chickenhawks may have to get a little blood on their hands if another draft comes to fruition. Again, not that I'm endorsing a return of the draft. Conscription = slavery. That said, the thought of some of the louder, more self-righteous armchair warriors getting a high and tight and 13 weeks of Marine Corps basic training does leave me with a slight sense of impending Karmic retribution. I wonder how many of them will suddenly develop anal cysts?!
