Bustamante whips up Fresno crowd

John Ellis and Robert Rodriguez of The Fresno Bee on Bustamante whips up Fresno crowd:

Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante came back to his Fresno County stamping grounds Sunday, setting the tone for the final month of his campaign to win the state’s gubernatorial recall election with a speech that hit on familiar Democratic Party themes from corporate greed to immigrants’ rights.

Billed as a major statement on campaign-finance reform, Bustamante’s address instead relied on politics.

I don’t know if this is technically illegal, but my guess is probably: “During his speech, Bustamante also addressed large campaign contributions he received from unions and tribal gaming interests, saying he would instead use the money in the campaign against Proposition 54, which would block public agencies from collecting and using many types of racial data.”

At the very least, the appropriate individuals should file a complaint with the Federal Elections Commission regarding Bustamante’s intent to funnel PAC donations from his gubernatorial campaign to another purpose – fighting the RPI. While this may or may not be illegal, it should be worth some negative press for Bustamante if a complaint is filed.
