John Boyanoski of The Greenville News on City padlocks Mitchell Stereo:
The City Fire Marshal padlocked the doors at two S. Main Street businesses Thursday night, saying the building they are connected to is in worse shape now than it was two weeks ago and could collapse at any time.
Write-in mayoral candidate Billy Mitchell closed the blinds to his stereo shop at 8:10 p.m. as Fire Marshall Larry Godfrey and City Codes Administrator Steve Landrith padlocked the doors behind him.
The city ordered Mitchell's building, which is also serving as his campaign headquarters, and one owned by Jeanette Surratt to evacuate 13 days ago because the building was unsafe.
Of course, the building was only padlocked by the city because an adjoining building was "unsafe" and had previously been slated for demolition.
Right. Sure. If you say so.
Mitchell's mayoral campaign in opposition to the city's attempt to seize his property under eminent domain couldn't have had anything to do with it. Nope. Not a thing. I mean, no one in public service would ever abuse their power for personal gain or protection of power…
