Jan Barry writing for Veterans Against The Iraq War on Retired General Dissents, Big Media AWOL:
Working for peace in the Middle East is more important than waging war in places like Iraq, Gen. Anthony Zinni maintains. That's the message the retired four-star general has presented loud and clear for the past year. He stated it again at a recent symposium at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg covered by a local newspaper and C-SPAN.
"The number one priority, Zinni said, is the peace process between the Israelis and Palestinians," the Daily Press of Newport News, Virginia reported on the April 17 event. "'That is the single most important issue,'" said Zinni, who served as President Bush’s special envoy to the Middle East peace talks. 'It takes the commitment. You can’t do it from Washington.'" End of quote. And the end of that news story. If you want to know what Zinni said in more depth, better check out C-SPAN.
General Zinni has nothing to gain by doing this. He is simply a retired warrior who understands more about war and military politics than boys like Jonah Goldberg and the head dittohead Rush Limbaugh. The chickenhawk brigade would be wise to heed his counsel.

General Zinni is a well respected person. However, I am amazed that after all the time he spent trying to get a peace initiative started he has not realized that the Palestinians (Arafat) believe that there is only one way to peace: a middle east without Israel!
