Little Denny Hastert, the biggest boy on the House block has decided that criticism of the President or his actions is "mighty close" to giving comfort to U.S. adversaries and undermining the president as we head toward war.
Interesting, I must have missed the debate on the Amendment to Repeal the First Amendment. Further, I must have missed it's ratification in the commonwealth in which I reside. I am a heavy sleeper after all. Anything is possible.
Methinks little Denny needs a Constitutional refresher course. I can think of nothing more American than a little open dissent and criticism of the man in charge. Since when are we Americans supposed to roll over and shut up just because a career politician tell us to? Who would he have us act like? Submissive Soviets?
To openly compare criticism of the President and his policies to treason shows a tendency to embrace police state tactics on Hastert's behalf. Hastert's message is clear: he will not accept dissent or criticism of the President with regards to war, unless of course the president is a Democrat, then all bets are off. My message to Denny is clear: anyone with respect for the Bill of Rights should be appalled by the Speaker's assertions. Hastert is playing partisan politics with cherished hard won and protected centuries old civil liberties.
Speaker Hastert can be reached here. Remind him that dissent and criticism of political leaders played a large role in this nation's struggle from colonial underlings to new-born independence. To downplay the right of anyone, whether public or private to voice an opposing viewpoint AT ANY TIME is disgusting and patently un-American.
