We don’t mix. Water and oil. Rust and chrome. I’ve never been a fan of the game. Like Gene Healy, I prefer other sports. I’m big on baseball and a lifelong Cubs fan. I enjoy minor league hockey and I’m a fan of the Peoria Rivermen. But I’ve never been able to get into football. I don’t know why. Maybe it was because I grew up in a community where football was more important than academics. Maybe it was also for some of the same reasons that Healy mentioned. If you’re ever talking to me about the NFL and my eyes start glazing over, change the subject before I slip into a coma.
