truthout has a reprint of a New York Times story on a "nationwide sweep" of fathers who've not paid their child support. Okey-dokey. But when is there going to be a "nationwide sweep" of mothers who violate child visitation and custody orders with gleeful abandon, denying good and supportive fathers time with their children? Anyone? At all? Didn't think so…. Furthermore, there wouldn't be a need for a "nationwide sweep" if divorce courts stopped assuming that only mothers should receive custody in divorce proceedings. It's kind of hard to expect men to act like men with divorce courts treating them like children with regards to their own children.
For all the bleating that the Left does about the so-called epidemic of deadbeat dads, I've not seen them take mothers to task for willfully denying fathers and children their time together. Don't get me wrong, there are too many fathers who neglect their children emotionally and financially, but they aren't the only ones. Not by a long shot. Far too many courts turn a blind eye towards this behavior when the perp is a mother. It's a disgraceful double-standard that teaches children that fathers are good for a check and nothing else. You want to end the so-called epidemic of deadbeat dads? Start by abandoning the notion that only women are suitable as custodial parents and you'll be a long way towards solving the problem.
