Dear Senators Warner and Allen and Representative Moran:
During the run-up to war in Iraq, the United Nations has shown itself to be indecicive at best, irrelevant at worst. It is frustrating that the United States must foot a good part of the bill for this struggling institution.
Even worse, though, is the folly to be found at lower levels in the organization. Libya has been appointed the chair of the UN Human Rights Committee, despite its long history of human rights abuses. And Iraq is scheduled to take over the chair of the UN Conference on Nuclear Disarmament, and Iraq daily flouts UN disarmament demands.
US funding for this madness is not just a waste of taxpayer money; it makes us complicit in the maneuvers of the likes of Libya and Iraq.
Congressman Vito Fossella has introduced a bill, H.R. 800, to deny US funding to those United Nations activities that are chaired by rogue states. I strongly support this bill, and I urge you to help bring it to the floor and vote for it!
Sincerely,
James Landrith
