Ellen Sorkin of The Washington Times on how the ACLU fears door open to Big Brother:
The United States is at risk of turning into a full-fledged surveillance society where "Big Brother is watching you," says a report released yesterday by the American Civil Liberties Union.
Sophisticated technology makes advanced surveillance simple, but the erosion of constitutional protections in the wake of September 11 threatens the legal safeguards protecting Americans from excessive government snooping, the report concludes.
Some of us have been screaming about this for years, while conservative and liberal apologists have made excuses, labelled us paranoid or questioned our patriotism. Total surveillance is coming. Don't forget that the President responsible for the biggest leap in that direction wasn't a Democrat either. You can't trust either party on this issue. The vote count on the PATRIOT Act is proof enough of that.
