The Honorable James P. Moran
U.S House of Representatives
2239 Rayburn House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515-4608

On Wednesday, July 7th, you voted YES on an amendment by Reps. Maurice Hinchey and Dana Rohrabacher to forbid the Dept. of Justice from using our taxpayer resources to squash state medical marijuana laws. This was a great vote on your part, and I’m writing to thank you for it.

States should be able to set these kinds of policies without federal interference, and patients who need marijuana for relief from serious medical conditions should not be interfered with by the federal government! The US 9th Circuit Court recently held that DOJ’s actions against medical marijuana in states that have sanctioned it are unconstitutional.

Lastly, aren’t there more important things for DOJ to be doing that could actually make Americans safer? Pursuing medical marijuana users and their providers should be at the very bottom of the priority list. Your vote shows that you have the right idea about this issue.

Sincerely,

James Landrith
