Open Letter to The Interracial, Multiracial and Transracial Adoptee Community

Open Letter to The Interracial, Multiracial and Transracial Adoptee Community

I write this letter with a heavy heart and genuine concern for the future of our community as a result of recent actions. Recently, I wrote a letter to Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott of Mississippi. My letter asked for his resignation due to his recently exposed 8 year involvement with a white supremacist organization, the Council of Conservative Citizens and previously well-known advocacy efforts on behalf of interracially-intolerant Bob Jones University.

For purposes of clarification, let me add that Senator Lott is a Republican. This fact means nothing to me. I am not a Republican. I am also not a Democrat. I am best labeled as a consequentalist Libertarian. Just how is my political affiliation relevant to this issue? Well, let’s just start it off by getting this out in the open: I have no vested interest in either of this nation’s two largest political parties becoming involved in race-related scandals. I simply support neither side as a rule and therefore don’t jump for joy when a member of either party is exposed for racist activities.

Sadly, some parties in the interracial/multiracial community have seized upon my condemnation of Senator Lott’s affiliations as justification for previous partisan political practices on their part. Well, my letter was not intended as an endorsement of said partisan politics. So, for the benefit of those not privy to these occurrences, let me make this clear: I will not, nor will my publication, The Multiracial Activist support discriminatory, partisan socio-political movements that endorse one party to the exclusion of another. I will, however, strive as always to work with any public servant willing to help advance tolerance and acceptance of our joint interracial/multiracial/transracial adoptee community. With that said, I invite the leadership of said community to join me in a spirit of tri-partisanship as we move into the First Session of the 106th Congress.

Sincerely,
